EDGE HONING
Edge Honing is a process that is referred to as edge rounding or radiusing and is used to increase
the performance and life of cutting tools.
We define Honing as the creation of a controlled radius and a surface finish improvement at the
intersection of two points that create the cutting edge. It stabilizes the cutting edge of cutting tools
to greatly extend their flake and wear resistance. These increases cutting tool life to save you
money, raises productivity by reducing tool changes, improves workpiece surface finish through
better cutting action thus reducing overall manufacturing cost.
Edge Honing benefits all types of tools, from H.S.S. to carbide. The major benefits occur on car-
bide prior to the coating of a tool. The edge honing allows the coating to adhere better at the tool
surface since no dead sharp corners or burrs are present.
EDGE HONING IS RECOMMENDED FOR THE FOLLOWING TOOLS:
Drills – all types of points Carbide inserts – most shapes
Reamers Gear shaper cutters
Spiral bevel stick blades Saw blades – round and hack style
Gear hobs Rock Drills
